Cooling Resource Management is a service provided by Cal Gavin ESD in conjunction with our US partners Veritech.Inc The service aims to optimise and debottleneck cooling networks in process plants.

A three stage approach is used:

Audit
A database of significant coolant users is established, collecting information regarding coolant flow, temperature etc. Where site instrumentation cannot provide this data, further instrumentation will be provided and used by Cal Gavin.

Modelling
The cooling network is modelled at an appropriate level of detail to identify improvement opportunities. Heat and mass balances will be developed, and “pinch” techniques are employed to determine minimum coolant usage targets. Where appropriate a hydraulic model of the network will be constructed to optimise coolant distribution.

Solutions Implementation
The audit and modelling stages will highlight operational improvements which can be implemented, and Cal Gavin’s detailed heat exchanger engineering experience will pinpoint cost-effective revamp opportunities.

CRM Solutions
The audit and modelling phases of a CRM study provide a solid basis upon which to define cost-effective revamping strategies. Appropriate solutions can be drawn from the following:
