Heat Exchanger Troubleshooting
In many cases, heat exchangers do not perform as expected and this can have a severe impact on plant operation.  Cal Gavin ESD provides a comprehensive troubleshooting service for all types of heat exchanger, based on 20 years of experience in the field of process heat transfer.

The troubleshooting process involves several phases of activity, and Cal Gavin ESD is unique in offering all of the following:

Site Investigations
Successful troubleshooting depends upon both the quantity and quality of the information upon which the investigation is based.  Cal Gavin ESD will attend the operating site in order to gather and verify the appropriate information.  In addition to the collection of process data (temperatures, pressure etc.), more sophisticated techniques such as thermal imaging and radioisotope scanning can be applied.

Heat Exchanger Modelling
Through its membership of both HTFS and HTRI, Cal Gavin ESD has access to state-of-the-art heat exchanger modelling codes.  Of equal importance to a successful outcome, the company’s engineers have many years of experience of the application of this software.  Where appropriate, CFD modelling techniques can also be used to provide more detailed information.

Fault Diagnosis
By combining site data with high-integrity modelling, the true nature of the heat exchangers operation will be revealed. This understanding allows the development of rectification proposals.

Corrective Action
Once the true nature of the heat exchanger operation has been discovered, the way is clear to develop proposals for corrective action.  In many cases operational changes will be sufficient to restore proper operation.  In addition Cal Gavin ESD can draw from a wide range of hardware options to engineer cost-effective revamp opportunities.

Closing the Loop
Following any corrective action, success can (and should) be verified through post-modification data collection and analysis.
