Q. By how
much do HiTRAN®
Thermal Systems increase heat transfer?
A. The amount of increase varies with the Reynolds number
range in which the fluid is being operated. The density of the
element can also be varied to allow some flexibility in the
increase available. Providing full details of your application
will allow HiTRAN®
Thermal
System’s Engineers to advise you of the benefits achievable.
(See
HiTRAN®
Performance)
Q. Are HiTRAN®
Thermal Systems limited to clean fluids?
A. It may be surprising that many successful applications
using HiTRAN®
Thermal Systems involve very dirty fluids. In some applications
the radial mixing action can reduce the tendency to foul whilst
for others increased tubeside heat transfer can change wall
temperatures thereby limiting fouling. HiTRAN®
Thermal Systems Engineers will be pleased to assess the potential
for your application.
Q. Is
any increase in heat transfer paid for by increased pressure drop?
A
In many applications revamping of heat exchangers has
allowed for significant increase in heat transfer coefficient at
equal or reduced pressure loss. For some applications extra
pressure drop is preferable but it is generally possible to find
an option which allows heat transfer increase for a given
pressure drop increase. (See
HiTRAN®
Case Studies)
Q. How easy are HiTRAN®
Thermal
Systems to install and use?
A. Installation
is relatively straight forward as it usually involves pulling the
matrix elements into the tubes in the direction of flow. They are
normally retained in the tubes by simple methods. Once installed
they normally require no attention unless maintenance requires
access to the tubes, in which case they can be removed and
reinstalled in the same way. (See
