Updated hiTRAN.SP software release – V5.50November 25, 2016
hiTRAN.SP and updated plug-in for HTRI Xchanger Suite® and Aspen EDR
CALGAVIN LTD is pleased to announce the new release of hiTRAN.SP V5.50.
This release supersedes release V5.4x, which will expire by the 1st of December this year, the new release will work until 30th April 2018.
The update comprises a revised standalone software version to calculate the tube side heat transfer and pressure drop in hiTRAN enhanced tubular exchangers (hiTRAN.SP V5.5.0). It comprises also the software plug-in for HTRI Xchanger Suite® and also the plug-in for Aspen EDR software.
During the installation process, plug-in and standalone software are installed.
Single phase calculation results will be in-line with calculations from the previous version. The changes made to the software can be summarized as follows:
Calculations for heat transfer and pressure drop are based on the same calculation engines as for the plug-in. The underlying correlations are unchanged compared to the previous version and as a consequence you will not notice any difference in the calculation results.
Some changes were made to the appearance and functionality of the Software. In the result sheet the user will find information whether the calculation was performed for a U-tube or straight tube bundle.
The plug-in is fully tested for Aspen EDR Versions of AirCooled and Shell&Tube up to version 9.0. Correlations for heat transfer and pressure drop are unchanged compared to the previous software version.
The calculated hiTRAN Part number will differ in terms of displayed software version which is shown in the example below:
The updated dll version number (V 1.50) for the Aspen EDR hiTRAN plug-in, is displayed within the part number as /1.50/. When performing [Find Optimum Insert] calculations with the updated plug-in, this entry will show /1.50/, indicating that the calculation was performed with the updated plug-in.
HTRI Xchanger Suite ®
The newly revised plug-in will be fully compatible with HTRI Xchanger Suite® V7 [SP1 and SP2] and also V6 SP 3. It has also been tested with HTRI Xchanger Suite® V7 SP3, which is due for release by the end of 2016.
Please note that the hiTRAN plug-in is not integrated in HTRI Xchanger Suite® V7 without Service Pack installed.

hiTRAN in 2-phase flow
hiTRAN Thermal Systems are increasingly used in two phase applications. With this release a first step toward implementation of hiTRAN 2-phase calculations in HTRI Xchanger Suite® has been done.
At this stage the information given for the use of hiTRAN is of general nature, relating to the case of application.
To receive this information, please invoke the hiTRAN option in your 2-phase case:
The case will run / calculate WITHOUT hiTRAN tube internals. Once the run is completed in empty tube mode, the user will find in the [CalGavin hiTRAN] Report tab, information related to the use of hiTRAN in this particular service. In the screenshot below a typical example for a vaporizer is shown.
For future releases it is planned to give more detailed information for the suitability and the performance increase expected, when using hiTRAN in particular 2-phase flow services.
