Prof. Geoff Hewitt RIP

It is with great sadness that we were informed that Prof. Geoff Hewitt passed away on Friday 18th January, aged 85.

He was Emeritus Professor at Imperial College London, where from 1993 through 1999 he was the Courtaulds Professor of chemical engineering.

He was elected as Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1984,  became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1989 and was President of IChemE in 1989/90. He received an honorary doctorate from Heriot-Watt University in 1995.

In 2007, Prof. Hewitt was awarded the Global Energy Prize by Vladimir Putin.

Prof. Hewitt was very supportive of the UK Heat Transfer Society over many years.  He was also one of the very few people to have been President of the Society on more than one occasion.

CALGAVIN®’s Managing Director Martin Gough, commented “Geoff was a highly valued supporter and mentor to the development of CALGAVIN. He gave so freely of his time to all who engaged him in his passion for heat transfer and flow phenomena. A scientist and gentleman of the highest integrity. “
